While security forces were battling Daesh insurgents in one part of Darzab district, another clash in the same district was underway against the Taliban.

At least 20 Daesh insurgents were killed by security forces in the past two days in Darzab district of northern Jawzjan province, local officials said on Wednesday.

In addition, 12 other insurgents were wounded.

On Monday night, Daesh insurgents attacked security check posts in the district, provincial police chief Rahmatullah Turkmestani said.

“The clash continued until midnight on Tuesday. Six security force members were also killed and three others were wounded,” Turkmenistani said.

According to him, another clash at the same time had been underway between Afghan National Army Commandos and residents, who support security forces, in the northern parts of the same district.

“The clash has stopped now but commandos and residents of the district, who support government, were also in a clash with the Taliban in the north of the district, at the same time as the Daesh clash,” he said.

In both instances, the insurgents retreated, he said.

The security sources meanwhile told TOLOnews that in the run up to Tuesday, the security situation in Darzab has been “bad”. According to these sources, Daesh insurgents were at one stage only 500 meters from the district governor’s compound." rel="nofollow -
