Meshrano Jirga Starts 7th Legislative Year

Three top officials elected, but none of the candidates succeed to gain the votes necessary for the position of senate secretary.
 

On the first day of its 7th legislative year, Meshrano Jirga (upper house of parliament) on Monday held the election of its administrative board.

Mohammad Alam Ezidyar was elected as first deputy of the senate, Mohammad Asif Sediqqi as the second deputy of senate and Mohamamd Faisal Sami as deputy of senate’s secretariat.

No candidate managed to win 50+1 vote for the position of senate secretary.

“We try to fulfill our duties in terms of the laws and the commitments we have,” said first deputy of senate Mohammad Alam Ezidyar.

Mohammad Alam Ezidyar obtained 40 votes and elected as first deputy of senate.

Mohammad Asif Rahimi obtained 34 votes and nominated as second deputy of senate.

“We commit to conduct our duties transparently, said second deputy of senate Mohammad Asif Sediqqi, referring to the vote of confidence by the senators.

“I promise to use all my energy to serve the senate and the senators in the next one year,” said deputy of senate speaker Mohammad Faisal Sami who obtained 34 votes.

None of the candidates succeed to gain the votes necessary for the position of senate secretary.
